New Mac? How about some beginner tips?

First of all, if any begineers have a specific question please go ahead and post and I will do my best to answer.
1. Don’t Panic!
Unless you physically drop your mac its impossible (almost) to break it by playing around with OS X. So relax and take a look around.
2. If it totaly stopped working!
If you somehow manage to make it lock up / stop working, first try holding down the apple button (the one with a picture of an apple on it) and the power on/off. This is a soft reset. If its still does not recover try pulling the mains out - its not going to hurt it more. If you have a laptop pull the mains out and remove the battery. If after this it does not start up properly insert the install OS X install disks, restart and follow the instructions.
WARNING: if you reinstall OS X there is a good chance you will lose any data (documents etc) you have added. See next point.
3. Backup your data regularly (Small Amounts of Data up to 6GB)
The easiest way to do this is to buy a USB Memory Stick, they are very cheap (£20 odd) and allow you to backup (copy) your documents, bookmarks etc. You can find one here. To copy your files insert the USB Memory Stick, open the folder that appears for it, then open Macintosh HD and find the folder with your files in, select them (select all is apple key + a) and drag them to the USB Memory Stick folder and let go, you should then see a display bar showing the progress of the copy.
4. Backup your data regularly (Large Amounts of Data 6GB +)
Buy an external hard drive like one of these, either Lacie or Iomega make very good drives. Again to backup its simply a case of copying yours files as described above.
